What Your Baptism Means to God

Baptism isn’t just a ritual or symbol - it’s a powerful act of identification with Jesus. To God, it is a declaration that we have chosen to be united with His Son in both His death and His life. When we are baptized, we declare that our lives are now united with His - that we have left behind the old self and stepped into a new life through Him.

Jesus didn’t just show sympathy for our pain - He stepped into it. He bore our temptations, disappointments, heartbreaks and died our death. Now He calls us to identify with Him, to follow Him in a journey of transformation marked by four steps:

  1. We die to sin

“Our old self was crucified with Him...” – Romans 6:6–7

We didn’t physically hang on the cross, but by faith, we choose to identify with Jesus in His death. The old sinful self - ruled by pride, rebellion, and sin - is nailed to the cross with Him. We are no longer slaves to sin.

  1. We were buried with Christ

“We were therefore buried with him through baptism...” – Romans 6:4

“Having been buried with him in baptism...” – Colossians 2:12

Baptism is a burial service - the funeral of our old nature. We lay down the past, the shame, the guilt, and everything that doesn’t belong in the new life God has for us.

  1. We were raised with Christ

“Just as Christ was raised from the dead... we too may live a new life.” – Romans 6:4

We don’t stay buried. Through faith, we are raised with Jesus into newness of life. The same Spirit who raised Him from the dead now lives in us - not just to revive our souls, but to empower our whole lives (Romans 8:10–11).

  1. We are seated with Christ

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms...” – Ephesians 2:6

The resurrection was not the end of the story - Jesus ascended, and so do we. Spiritually, we are now seated with Christ, sharing in His victory, His authority, and His priesthood. He is both King and Priest, and we are part of His royal priesthood. That means we are not called to live in defeat, but in spiritual authority - overcoming sin and interceding for others.

Maybe you think life is going fine without God. But what if you’re missing the life you were created for? You don’t lose anything by coming to Christ - you gain everything. New life. New identity. A fresh start. A seat at the table with Him.
