The Spirit Makes Him Known

We often ask, Who is Jesus? The truth is, no words can fully answer that. His identity is the greatest mystery of all time. Scripture gives us glimpses - He is the Lamb of God, the Light of the world, the Bread of life, the Resurrection and the Life. He is called the Word of God. But even after all these names, Revelation tells us that He will come with a name only He Himself knows (Revelation 19:12-13).
So how can we possibly know Him?
The answer is Pentecost.
The day the Holy Spirit was poured out wasn't just a display of power - it was God’s invitation for each of us to know Jesus personally. “I will pour out my Spirit on all people...” (Acts 2:17) Why? Because without His Spirit, we can't truly understand who Jesus is. We can’t see His signs, hear His voice, or even call on His name from the heart. The Spirit is the one who opens our ears, softens our hearts, and reveals Jesus - not just as a name, but as a Person who speaks, leads, walks with us, and makes Himself known.

That’s why Jesus is called the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit (John 1:33). He doesn’t just teach truth - He immerses us into it. To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is to be drawn into a relationship where Jesus is not distant or theoretical, but present and personal. He doesn’t want you to depend on others to know Him. He wants a one-on-one with you. The Spirit teaches, testifies, reveals, and guides. He makes Jesus known.
So if you’ve ever felt that Jesus is distant or unclear, if you’ve ever longed to know Him more than just by name… Ask the Spirit to introduce you.
Why does this matter?
Because only through His Spirit can we truly know Him:
God can only reach us through His Spirit. Without Him, we may hear Scripture, but miss the voice behind it.
God speaks to us through His Spirit. “He will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26) He is the best teacher.
The Spirit testifies of Jesus. “He will testify of Me.” (John 15:26) He doesn’t glorify Himself - He reveals Christ.
The Spirit leads us into all truth. “He will guide you into all the truth...” (John 16:13)
God wants you to know what He has freely made available for you. “These are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit…” (1 Corinthians 2:9–12) Don’t settle for secondhand faith - receive what’s already been given.
We’re taught to read, study, memorize. But the Spirit wasn’t sent to make us better readers. He came to introduce us to the Author. It’s one thing to know about Jesus. It’s another to truly know Him.
For many of us, faith starts with information - we learn who Jesus is, what He said, what He did. But information alone doesn’t transform hearts. The people who followed Jesus while He walked the earth heard Him teach too - but it wasn’t until the Spirit came that His words came alive in them. That’s the beauty of Pentecost. Through the Spirit, Jesus becomes more than a name on a page. He becomes real. Present. Known.
So maybe the question today isn’t, “Have you read about Him?” It’s: Have you met the Word?
Because Jesus didn’t come to be studied. He came to be known.
