Know who Jesus is - Part 3 - The Jesus the Prophets Spoke About

The foundation of our faith is knowing the real Jesus (John 17:1-3). Scripture warns us that faith built on anything less is useless (Psalm 11:3). The enemy doesn’t need to make people reject Jesus - only believe in a distorted version (2 Corinthians 11:4, 2 Corinthians 11:14). Jesus warned: “Many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord…’ and I will declare, ‘I never knew you.’ ” (Matthew 7:22-23)

So we must ask: Who is Jesus according to the Scriptures?

The Prophets Spoke About Him

Jesus is not just a historical figure or a great teacher. He is not just a rabbi or a prophet - He is the fulfillment of prophecy.

After His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples: “Everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” (Luke 24:44)

The entire Old Testament testifies about Jesus. His birth, mission, and kingdom were foretold centuries before He came.

Let’s see what the prophets said about Him and how these prophecies were fulfilled.

📖 The Place of His Birth

Micah 5:2 "But you, Bethlehem… out of you will come for Me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old." ➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus was born in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1).

📖 His Virgin Birth

Isaiah 7:14 "The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel." ➡️ Fulfilled: Mary, a virgin, conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18).

📖 His Eternal Kingdom

2 Samuel 7:12-13 "I will raise up your offspring to succeed you… and I will establish the throne of His kingdom forever." ➡️ Fulfilled: The angel Gabriel told Mary that Jesus would reign over a kingdom that will never end (Luke 1:31-33).

📖 The Messiah Would Be Called Out of Egypt

Hosea 11:1 "Out of Egypt I called My Son."➡️ Fulfilled: After escaping Herod’s massacre, Jesus was taken to Egypt and later brought back to Israel (Matthew 2:14-15).

📖 The Killing of Innocents After His Birth

Jeremiah 31:15 "A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."➡️ Fulfilled: Herod ordered the massacre of all male infants in Bethlehem to kill Jesus (Matthew 2:16-18).

📖 The Messiah’s Mission to Preach Good News

Isaiah 61:1-2 "The Spirit of the Lord is on Me… to proclaim good news to the poor… to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, and release from darkness for the prisoners."➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus read this passage in the synagogue and declared, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." (Luke 4:18-19).

📖 The Messiah Would Enter Jerusalem on a Donkey

Zechariah 9:9 "See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey." ➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey as the people shouted, “Hosanna!” (Matthew 21:1-5).

📖 The Messiah Would Be Mocked and Beaten

Isaiah 50:6 "I offered My back to those who beat Me, My cheeks to those who pulled out My beard; I did not hide My face from mocking and spitting."➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus was beaten, spit on, and mocked before His crucifixion (Matthew 26:67).

📖 The Messiah Would Suffer for Our Sins

Isaiah 53:5 "He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed." ➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus suffered and bore our sins on the cross (1 Peter 2:22-24).

📖 The Messiah’s Everlasting Kingdom

Daniel 7:13-14 "I saw one like a Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He was given authority, glory, and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and His kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."➡️ Fulfilled: Jesus reigns as the King of Kings, and He will return in glory (Revelation 16:11-16).

The accuracy of biblical prophecy leaves no room for doubt - Jesus is the Messiah. From His birthplace to His divine mission, every prophecy pointed to Jesus. He is not shaped by human opinion. He is not one of many options.

He is the only way, the only truth, and the only life (John 14:6).
