Know Who Jesus Is - Part 2

Long ago, the prophets spoke about Jesus, describing who He would be even before He was born. Their writings pointed to the One through whom God would reveal Himself. In John 17:1-3, Jesus fulfills this by teaching that knowing Him is the way to eternal life because He reveals the God we cannot see. If we lose sight of who Jesus truly is, the church falters. That is why Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” (Matthew 16:13-18). Peter’s bold confession - “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” - became the solid foundation upon which the church was built.

This question remains as important today as it was then. Many false ideas about Jesus threaten to lead people astray. In Matthew 24:24, Jesus warns of “false christs and prophets” who will try to deceive even the faithful. The devil’s greatest weapon is deception. He doesn’t care about doctrines or debates - he wants to distract us from focusing on Jesus.

True faith comes from knowing the Jesus of the Bible - not just as a historical figure or teacher, but as the divine Son of God. From Moses to the Psalms and the prophets, all pointed to Him. As Jesus said in John 6:45, “Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” This revelation transforms lives: fishermen like Peter and John left their nets to follow Him. Matthew, a tax collector, abandoned his wealth to walk with Jesus. Zacchaeus climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of Him, and after their encounter, his heart was forever changed. Even skeptics like Philip put their doubts aside, declaring, “You are the King of Israel!” What made this possible? It was the work of God the Father, who opens hearts to see Jesus for who He truly is.

The challenge remains: when Jesus returns, will He find faith on Earth? Have we guarded our hearts and stayed focused on the true Christ, or have we been led astray? As we reflect on this, let us turn to God in prayer:

Lord, open our eyes to see Your Son as You have revealed Him. Let the truth of who Jesus is fill our hearts, not just our minds. Keep us vigilant against deception and deepen our relationship with Your Son.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
